Description

Are you a passionate individual with experience supporting learners who are developing their English language skills?
As a leading West Midlands Further Education College, we are currently seeking Learning Support Assistants to join our ESOL Department on fixed-term contracts until June 2026.

In this role, you will work closely with ESOL students—many of whom are new to English or adapting to education in the UK—providing language and learning support that helps them gain confidence, achieve their qualifications, and progress in their studies and future careers.

Please note that your salary will be calculated based on the number of term-time weeks and the hours worked. The advertised salary reflects the full academic year.

Key Responsibilities

In this role, you will play a key part in supporting ESOL learners within the classroom. Your main responsibilities will include:
* Supporting learners to develop their English language, literacy, and numeracy skills.
* Providing one-to-one and small group support to reinforce understanding and build confidence.
* Assisting learners in overcoming language barriers and engaging fully in lessons.
* Offering note-taking and classroom assistance to help students stay focused and organised.
* Encouraging learners to develop independent study skills and confidence in using English in everyday contexts.
* Collaborating with teaching staff to create an inclusive, supportive learning environment where all students can thrive.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

* Be adaptable, patient, and resilient, with a genuine desire to make a lasting difference in the lives of ESOL learners.
* Demonstrate strong classroom and behaviour management skills to support and motivate students from a wide range of cultural and educational backgrounds.
* Build positive relationships and create an inclusive, encouraging learning environment where all learners can thrive.
* Work collaboratively with teaching staff to support learners in developing their English language, literacy, and numeracy skills.
* Hold GCSE (or equivalent) in English and Maths at grade C/4 or above, or Functional Skills Level 2.
* Have current skill levels at Level 2 in literacy, language, and numeracy.
* Hold a minimum of a Level 3 qualification in a relevant subject area.
