Description
Are you a Paralegal looking to take on more responsibility and get more involved in cases? If so, this role could be perfect for you.
As a File Handler Assistant, you will undertake a variety of mainly File Handler tasks to support the team and main File Handler. The position involves assisting a specialised team of Solicitors and Legal Executives who deal specifically with insurer clients in a niche area of the market. You will also support the team leader and deputy team leader in file allocation and triage. The successful candidate should be adaptable and open to embracing new methods of claims handling and the associated ethos.
Key Accountabilities
Administration:
* Dealing with general or straightforward queries
* Telephone chasing activities
* Filing out of court forms and drafting court documents
* Arranging telephone conferences and client meetings
* Organising conferences with Counsel and witnesses
Other duties:
* Assisting lead file handler
* Handling disclosure processes
* Reviewing evidence, including medical and personnel records
* Conducting investigations with insured parties and obtaining witness statements
* Liaising with parties involved in claims, including insured, claimant solicitors, and witnesses
* Instructing external investigators and counsel/experts
* Researching using legal software and practitioner texts
* Attending conferences and trials with counsel and taking notes
* Managing routine correspondence
* Handling court appointments
* Reviewing quantum
* Drafting Tomlin Orders and Consent Orders
* Drafting cost schedules
* Ensuring compliance with SRA Standards & Regulations
* Upholding Keoghs Values
The individual may also be required to undertake periodic strategy reviews and update reports to clients.
Working Hours
35 hours per week, Monday – Friday, 9am – 5pm, with 1 unpaid hour for lunch. Part-time hours will be considered. The primary location for this role is Bolton, Parklands Office.
Experience, Skills, and Qualifications
* Education standard of LPC, ILEX, or equivalent work experience
* Understanding of court processes
* Good communication skills and self-confidence in telephone interactions
* Ability to organise, prioritise, and delegate tasks effectively
* Calmness under pressure and attention to detail, especially with repetitive tasks
* Good literacy and IT skills
Must be a good team worker with flexibility to meet client service levels.
