We are seeking an experienced and innovative Lead Design Engineer to lead and oversee design projects across a variety of systems and products. This role combines technical leadership with hands-on design expertise, guiding teams to deliver high-quality, cost-effective, and sustainable engineering solutions.
As a senior member of the design team, you will manage complex projects from concept to completion, ensuring they are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest standards.
Responsibilities
* Leadership & Team Management: Lead cross-functional design teams, providing mentorship and technical guidance. Set clear goals, manage performance, and foster collaboration across departments.
* Project Management: Plan and manage multiple design projects simultaneously. Oversee timelines, budgets, and deliverables to ensure project success.
* Design & Development: Create detailed and complex mechanical designs using SolidWorks. Conduct feasibility studies, risk assessments, and design optimisation.
* Technical Expertise & Compliance: Stay current with industry developments, emerging technologies, and best practices. Ensure all designs comply with ISO standards and relevant regulations.
* Documentation & Reporting: Maintain accurate technical records and design documentation. Prepare progress reports and present project updates to senior stakeholders.
About You
Qualifications & Experience:
* HNC/HND or higher in Mechanical Engineering (or related technical discipline).
* Proven experience in bespoke machine design and mechanical systems.
* Strong background in project management, from concept through to commissioning.
* Proficiency in SolidWorks (layouts, detailing, and dimensioning to ISO standards).
* Skilled in applying engineering calculations, simulations, and analysis to support design decisions.
