Overview
Gweres Kernow is a specialist team within the Youth Justice Service (YJS), part of Gweres Tus Yownyk (a Cornish phrase meaning Helping Young People), which is our Specialist Adolescent Service. Gweres Kernow works with children and young people exhibiting harmful sexual behaviours across Early Help, Social Care and Youth Justice, providing advice, guidance and support to other professionals and delivering direct work to children and families, implementing safety plans and addressing the issues related to harmful sexual behaviour.
Responsibilities
* Work with children and young people exhibiting harmful sexual behaviours across Early Help, Social Care and Youth Justice, providing advice, guidance and support to other professionals.
* Provide direct work to children and families, implementing safety plans and addressing issues related to harmful sexual behaviour.
* Attend strategy discussions and provide consultation, advice and guidance in relation to presenting behaviours.
* Deliver effective interventions to children and families to address need and plan for safety.
* Support team work with a Clinical Psychologist who provides formulation, trauma‑informed intervention planning and reflective practice.
Qualifications
* Social Work qualification or equivalent (such as Youth Justice, Targeted Youth Worker) or other therapeutic qualifications such as counselling, therapeutic life story work, art therapy, drama therapy, play therapy and registration with an appropriate professional body (APAC, UKCP, BACP, HPC, SWE).
* Experience working with children and young people with complex needs and a good understanding of relevant theory/research, applying evidence‑based practice to promote recovery from trauma.
* Excellent communication and assessment skills, able to accurately record information on a database.
* Strong sense of the child’s lived experience at the centre of practice.
* Familiarity with critical reflection, positive challenge and a record of achieving good standards of practice.
* Commitment to developing specialist knowledge in the area of young people with harmful sexual behaviours through training and professional development opportunities.
Working Pattern
This is a full‑time position (37 hours) based in Chy Trevail, Bodmin. Flexible working will be considered.
Legal Requirements
This role requires a statutory English language requirement for public sector workers and will be subject to an enhanced criminal record disclosure check.
