Role Overview
· We are seeking a dynamic and commercially focused Strategic Sales Manager to lead our sales function and drive growth across core markets. This pivotal role includes responsibility for the management and development of the sales team, ensuring a coordinated and high-performing sales effort across the business.
· The role combines senior-level account development with team leadership, sales strategy, and customer engagement. While a technical or engineering background is not essential, strong product knowledge and the ability to translate that knowledge into commercial success is required.
· This is a hybrid position, with the option to work remotely, but requires some travel to our headquarters in Llanwrtyd Wells, Mid Wales.
Key Responsibilities
· Sales Leadership: Lead, manage, and develop the external sales teams, fostering a high-performance culture and ensuring alignment with business objectives.
· Team Development: Provide ongoing coaching, support, and training for sales team members, including setting objectives and evaluating performance.
· Account Management: Maintain and grow relationships with key strategic customers, ensuring high levels of service, retention, and satisfaction.
· External Sales Oversight: Direct the activities of the external sales team, supporting territory planning, customer visits, and new business development.
· Strategic Sales Planning: Develop and execute sales strategies that support Charcroft’s long-term growth in key sectors including defence, aerospace, rail, and industrial.
· Business Development: Identify new markets and opportunities, leading initiatives to capture growth and expand customer base.
· Sales Reporting: Track sales performance, pipeline activity, and forecasts, delivering regular updates to the Directors.
· Customer Engagement: Represent Charcroft at customer meetings, trade events, and supplier reviews; support complex negotiations where needed.
· Supplier Partnerships: Collaborate with suppliers to align on objectives, drive growth initiatives, and maintain strong working relationships.
· Market Analysis: Keep abreast of industry trends, customer requirements, and competitor activity to inform decision-making and future direction.
Candidate Profile
Essential:
· Proven experience managing and developing sales teams (including external field sales).
· Strong B2B sales and key account management track record.
· Commercially driven, with the ability to lead customer strategy and achieve revenue targets.
· Strong product knowledge, particularly in passive, electromechanical, or high-reliability components.
· Excellent interpersonal, leadership, and communication skills.
· Confident in using data to drive performance and reporting.
· Willing to travel regularly, including to Llanwrtyd Wells HQ.
· Full clean UK driving licence.
Desirable:
· Experience within quality-critical industries (e.g., defence, aerospace, rail, space).
· Familiarity with ISO, AS, BS, or CECC quality standards.
· Technical or engineering experience (not essential).
