Locum Team Manager - Referral & Assessment Team Location: North West London Contract: Locum / Temporary Start Date: ASAP About the Role We are recruiting an experienced Locum Team Manager to lead a front door Referral & Assessment team in North West London. This is a pivotal leadership role within a fast-paced service, where you will oversee the initial point of contact for children's social care, ensuring timely and effective decision-making to safeguard children. You will provide strong operational leadership, support staff development, and drive high standards of practice in line with statutory requirements and local authority expectations. Key Responsibilities Provide day-to-day management and oversight of the Referral & Assessment team Ensure timely screening of referrals and appropriate threshold decisions Oversee the completion of Child and Family Assessments within statutory timescales Lead on Section 47 enquiries and strategy discussions Monitor performance, quality assurance, and compliance with statutory duties Supervise and support social workers, including case direction and reflective supervision Manage risk effectively and ensure safeguarding standards are consistently met Work collaboratively with multi-agency partners and senior leadership Contribute to service development and continuous improvement Essential Requirements (DfE Compliant) Candidates must meet Department for Education (DfE) requirements: Qualified Social Worker with a recognised social work qualification (BA/MA Social Work or equivalent) Registered with Social Work England Significant post-qualification experience within children's services (minimum 5 years +) Proven management experience within a Front Door / Referral & Assessment team Strong working knowledge of relevant legislation, including the Children Act 1989 & 2004, Working Together to Safeguard Children, and statutory guidance Demonstrable experience in safeguarding, risk management, and decision-making at pace Enhanced DBS check (on the Update Service preferred) Skills & Competencies Strong leadership and management skills Ability to make high-level decisions in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment Excellent communication and interpersonal skills Skilled in performance management and quality assurance Ability to support and develop staff, promoting a positive team culture Confident in multi-agency working and stakeholder engagement What We Offer Competitive locum rates Supportive senior leadership team Opportunity to lead within a well-structured Front Door service Flexible working arrangements (where applicable) How to Apply If you are an experienced Team Manager looking for your next locum opportunity in a dynamic Front Door service, we would like to hear from you.
