Offer description

Are you ready to help transform Sheffield’s communities?

We’re looking for a passionate and driven Community Project Officer to lead delivery of a major citywide programme tackling inactivity and health inequalities. If you thrive on collaboration, have strong leadership skills, and want to make a lasting impact, we’d love to hear from you.

Why join us?

This is more than a job; it’s a chance to make a real difference. You’ll be at the heart of a Sport England-funded initiative that empowers communities, strengthens local organisations, and embeds physical activity and sport into everyday life.

You’ll have the opportunity to:

1. Lead delivery in five priority neighbourhoods across Sheffield.
2. Work with passionate partners across health, leisure, sport and community sectors.
3. Shape services that reduce inequalities and improve wellbeing.

About the Programme

Sheffield has successfully secured Sport England Place Expansion investment.

It focuses on five neighbourhoods with the highest levels of inactivity and inequality: Firth Park, Woodthorpe, Arbourthorne, Batemoor & Jordanthorpe, and Tinsley.

Our approach starts with trust and co-design, builds local capacity, and integrates physical activity into health pathways and referral systems. This is about creating sustainable, community-led change through sport.

About the Role

As Community Project Officer, you’ll lead neighbourhood-level delivery, supporting local organisations and mentoring emerging community leaders. You’ll ensure quality and consistency across areas, working closely with partners to embed physical activity and sport into communities and health and wellbeing systems.

Key Responsibilities

4. Develop and deliver inclusive, co-designed physical activity opportunities.
5. Support and strengthen VCSE organisations through training and mentoring.
6. Build partnerships across health, leisure, sport and community sectors.
7. Manage contracts, monitor performance, and ensure compliance.
8. Maximise local opportunity through a variety of sources and funding streams.
9. Represent the programme at meetings, events, and community forums.
10. Measuring learning and outcomes whilst working alongside research partners.

What We’re Looking For

11. Experience leading teams and increasing participation in physical activity and sport.
12. Strong partnership development skills across public, private, and VCSE sectors.
13. Knowledge of commissioning, contract management, and performance monitoring.
14. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
15. Ability to work flexibly, including evenings and weekends.
16. Driving licence and willingness to travel across Sheffield.

Why You’ll Love Working With Us

17. Be part of a forward-thinking team making a real impact on sport, physical activity and health and wellbeing.
18. Opportunities for professional development and training.
19. A supportive, inclusive work environment where your ideas matter.

Location: Hybrid – Based at Howden House (city centre), with city-wide travel and remote working
