Overview
The CYP Eating Disorders Day Hospital Service is mobilising. This specialist provision delivers intensive, evidence-based care to children & young people experiencing moderate to severe eating disorders. This innovative service aims to bridge the gap between inpatient and community care, offering a safe and structured alternative to Tier 4 admission and facilitating earlier discharge from hospital settings. The MDT works collaboratively to provide holistic, person-centred care, with each professional contributing expertise to support physical health monitoring, nutritional rehabilitation, psychosocial interventions and occupational engagement tailored to the needs of each young person and their family.
Responsibilities
* Provide specialist dietetic service to children and young people with eating disorders, alongside provision to outpatients as required.
* Undertake comprehensive assessments of each young person’s diet and lifestyle to formulate individualised management and treatment plans, ensuring optimal outcomes while minimising risk.
* Provide specialist advice to patients with eating disorders deemed to be at high physical risk.
* Be aware of and able to identify patients at high psychiatric risk (e.g., suicide risk) and liaise with the MDT regarding risk management.
* Act as a resource to junior staff or non-registered support staff with placements/working within the EDDH.
* Write, implement and monitor guidelines for management of patients with eating disorders receiving outpatient care.
* Provide input for training of student Dietitians.
* Work autonomously to organise, provide and manage all CYP patients diagnosed with an eating disorder receiving multidisciplinary team care while under the care of the CYP Eating Disorders Day Hospital.
Qualifications
* Essential: Degree in Nutrition and Dietetics or equivalent; Registration with HCPC; up-to-date fieldwork/pre-registration student training; evidence of continuing professional development.
* Desirable: Postgraduate BDA studies in accredited courses in dietetics; training in area of specialism or therapy skills (e.g., eating disorders, mental health, CBT or counselling skills); attendance at relevant Special Interest Groups.
Experience
* Essential: Experience of assessment and management of specialist dietetic interventions in eating disorders, long-term conditions and related care in hospital and outpatient settings; experience delivering clinical supervision and caseload management; ability to support service users, families and carers through diet and lifestyle changes.
* Desirable: Significant experience in both inpatient and outpatient settings; experience supervising other staff; experience in specialist mental health/learning disability settings.
Skills
* Demonstrate working knowledge of evidence-based practice.
* Ability to assess and evaluate complex conditions.
* Understand the need for multidisciplinary working and ability to operate across professional boundaries.
* Ability to formulate and evaluate risk management plans effectively.
