About the Role
Are you highly organised, detail-focused, and passionate about delivering excellent service? SMT GB is looking for a Stock Controller to join our Central Parts Team, supporting the smooth flow of parts across our UK operations and ensuring full compliance with import/export legislation.
In this varied role, you’ll co-ordinate the ordering, monitoring and invoicing of spare parts for both internal teams and external customers, while also supporting international logistics and customs processes. Your work will play a crucial part in maintaining our outstanding service delivery and operational reliability.
What You’ll Be Doing:
* Parts Ordering & Inventory Control:
Place and track orders with Volvo and non-Volvo suppliers, ensuring the right stock levels are maintained for our network of Service Delivery Centres.
* Customer Support & Communication:
Handle queries on part availability and lead times, and keep systems updated with accurate product information including supersessions and new records.
* System & Invoice Management:
Enter orders, update DMS systems, reconcile invoices, and support drop-shipments and manual orders (e.g., Media-Point).
* Logistics & Export/Import Compliance:
Work closely with fellow Stock Controllers, customs brokers, and external consultants to manage import/export procedures and resolve any related queries.
* Process Improvement & Collaboration:
Identify areas for improvement, suggest new ways of working, and support cross-functional teams to keep everything running smoothly.
Requirements
What You’ll Bring:
* Previous experience in a Customer Service and/or administration role within a similar field
* A strong customer service mindset and commitment to getting it right first time.
* Excellent attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities.
* Clear communication and negotiation skills, both internally and externally.
* A proactive approach to problem-solving and process improvement.
* Experience working to strict deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
* Knowledge of invoice processes, stock systems, and ideally some familiarity with import/export procedures.
