Job Summary
Gamston Medical Centre, Nottinghamp, NG2 6PS. This role provides front‑line reception services, greeting patients, answering telephones, managing appointments, handling prescriptions, and supporting clinical staff. The position is part‑time with flexible hours (part of the two vacancies).
Salary: £12.21 an hour. Contract: Permanent. Working pattern: Part‑time.
Responsibilities
 * Telephone duties – making appointments, taking prescription requests from housebound patients, giving out results, ambulance bookings, home visit requests, handling general enquiries and complaints, contacting other providers.
 * Reception duties – registering new patients and temporary residents, greeting and directing patients and visitors, making appointments, handing out prescriptions, explaining outstanding queries, responding to doctors’ and nurses’ needs during surgery, collecting payments for non‑NHS services, dealing with general enquiries and complaints.
 * Filing – organizing and retrieving paperwork as requested.
 * Prescriptions – dealing with repeat prescription requests, raising prescriptions according to practice protocols, handling prescription queries.
 * General – inputting and extracting information from the practice computer system, observing health and safety guidelines, maintaining tidy reception and waiting areas, observing confidentiality and security policies, opening/locking up premises, and supporting admin tasks such as cytology admin and recalls.
Qualifications & Experience
 * Essential behaviour – smart, polite and confident; planning and organising; performing under pressure; adaptability; using initiative; team working; self‑motivated; flexible; confidentiality.
 * Good standard of general education.
 * Experience of working with the general public and reception work within a general practice (desirable).
 * IT skills, clear telephone manner, excellent communication (written and oral), time management, problem solving, interpersonal skills.
 * Knowledge of SystmOne (desirable).
 * Qualifications – GCSE Mathematics C or above, GCSE English C or above, AMSPAR Receptionist certificate, NVQII in Customer Care (desirable).
