Children and Young People, Improving Access to Psychological Therapies (CYP IAPT) – Trainee Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) Practitioner – 2 posts available.

Venus has an exciting opportunity for the successful candidate to gain post graduate qualification in evidence-based psychotherapies for children and young people.

Venus is a Sefton-based charity that provides support to our local community, families, and individuals. As part of the charity and based at the Star Centre, we offer support and therapeutic interventions specifically for children, young people and their families.

The Trainee CBT Practitioner post will help develop key skills required to be an evidence-based practitioner. The course will provide development in general core clinical skills and theoretical knowledge, with specialism in cognitive and behaviour therapy interventions for internalising disorders in 8-18 year olds.

Qualification:

Successful students will gain a Postgraduate Diploma (PGDip) in Evidence Based Psychological Approaches for Children & Young People – Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) pathway – BABCP Level 2 Accredited.

Job Title: Post Graduate Diploma CYP/ IAPT CBT Trainee Practitioner

Contract: 12 months fixed term (extension funding dependant)

Hours: 35 hours per week

Applicants should have:

· an undergraduate degree or equivalent qualification (level 6) or the ability to evidence through an essay that you can work at a postgraduate level.

· a minimum of 2 years of working in a core profession, e.g. counselling, social work, mental health nurse, occupational therapist.

Applicants without one of these approved core professions will be required to evidence a minimum of 4 years of equivalent knowledge and skills using the BABCP's Knowledge, Skills, and Attitudes (KSA) framework. The BABCP website provides an example of KSA requirements at

Applicants need to be able to start the Post Graduate training programme taught academic dates in January 2026 (dates to be confirmed) and commit to attendance at all University based taught and self-study days required by Greater Manchester Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust (GMMH) Psychological Therapies Training Centre.

You will work within the service for the remaining days of the week using your newly developed skills to ensure you gain the necessary clinical practice hours to fulfil the academic programme. This is 100 hours of modality and case specific practice for the part time courses.

Job Purpose

As a Post Graduate Diploma (PGDip) trainee, the post holder will deliver evidence based, client centred care to children and young people with mental health problems within the THRIVE Framework for service delivery and in line with their training programme.

The post holder will work under supervision whilst undertaking their PGDip. with the CYP/IAPT Psychological Therapies Training Centre. The training post will equip the post-holder to provide interventions for children, young people or families referred to the service, using the core principles of CYP/IAPT practice along with an evidence-based intervention consistent with the course they are attending.

The post- holder will attend all taught and self-study days required by the education provider, as specified within the CYP/IAPT curriculum and work in the service for the remaining days of the week using their newly developed skills.

The post holder will work with people with different cultural backgrounds and ages, using interpreters when necessary and should be committed to equal opportunities.

As the post is identified within the CYPMH strategy, it is expected the role will continue to develop in line with national and local initiatives.

The post holder will demonstrate an attitude which respects and values service users' and their carers.
