Position Overview
Extension Agent, Ag – Livestock and Forages – Assistant, Associate, or Full Agent. Working as a public educator in Ashe County, NC, developing and delivering research‑based knowledge in livestock, equine, forages, and pesticide education. The position is full‑time, 12‑month recurring appointment.
Primary Responsibilities
- Deliver educational programs focused on the profitability and sustainability of livestock, equine, forages, and pesticide use.
- Lead the development, implementation, and evaluation of effective educational initiatives for Ashe County.
- Develop and market educational programs with measurable impacts.
- Collaborate with other agencies, groups, and organizations to reach intended audiences.
- Provide pesticide education to the community.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in animal science, crop science, agronomy, or a related agricultural field (or Master’s degree).
- Minimum GPA of 2.5 overall or 3.0 in major field (waived for certain NCCE Program Associates).
- Experience working with a wide variety of livestock.
- Travel within the county and occasional travel outside the county/district.
- Valid NC Driver’s License.
- Proficiency in computer applications.
- Availability for 8:00 am–5:00 pm weekdays, with occasional evenings and weekends.
