Job summary

Can you demonstrate our values of Trust, Respect, Integrity, and Compassion? Do you share in our ambition to create high quality, compassionate care, and wellbeing for all?

Leicestershire Partnership NHS Trust (LPT) provides a range of community health, mental health and learning disability services for people of all ages. Delivered through over 100 settings from inpatient wards to out in the community, our 6,500 staff serve over 1m people living in Leicester, Leicestershire, and Rutland.

This post will suit a newly or recently qualified podiatrist or one who already has experience, who is enthusiastic, motivated, and ready to join our friendly team. Would you love to continue developing your skills in all areas of podiatry including routine treatments, high risk and ulcer care, biomechanics, nail surgery and more? This is a great opportunity to develop your post graduate skills and to build on your current skills.

You will be given the opportunity to work through a competency programme during a preceptorship period of one year. As well as a full induction programme we will also offer regular supervision sessions. Our aim is that you will become one of our band 6 podiatrists.

You will be providing care within health centres, community hospitals, patients homes, and care homes along with the opportunity to experience working within the acute hospital setting on wards and the MDT diabetic foot clinic.

The NHS is the place to develop your skills!

Main duties of the job

Band 5

You will assess, diagnose, treat, manage and maintain defined caseload using your professional autonomy, applying sound reasoning and judgemental skills whilst ensuring practice is evidence based whenever possible. Our clinics and home visits are a mixture of routine, biomechanics and high risk patients. The clinic rota will also include telephone and video call appointments.

Nail surgery is done on a rota but often there is a need for extra sessions to meet the demand. Nail surgery is also provided for the housebound in their homes.

We have rotational placements working within the diabetic foot clinic at Leicester General Hospital and also treating patients the acute wards at one of the three main hospitals in Leicester.

You will liaise with professional colleagues to ensure safe and effective outcomes of interventions particularly the community nursing service and the wider MDTs.

You will have a base of work but will need to work at other clinics too which is great to meet other staff.

We encourage all podiatrists to have roles of interest eg getting involved in projects, audits, research, being a student placement instructor, line managing etc.

We 'treat to discharge' expect for the high risk patients. This requires excellent treatment planning and communication skills with patients and their families/carers to manage their expectations. We promote self care and independence.
