The Out of Hours department is responsible for the provision of high quality Out of Hours General Medical Services across Dumfries and Galloway. The department employs a range of staff including General Practitioners, Advanced Practitioners, Communication Co-ordinators and Healthcare Support Workers.
This post is 17.44 hours per week and is fixed term for 9 months
We are looking for someone to efficiently communicate and co-ordinate all professional and patient calls received into the Out of Hours Service Hub requiring the attention of a clinician. Calls can be received electronically from NHS24 or as a direct call from agreed professional as well as some groups of patients ie Palliative/End of Life. You will be responsible in co-ordinating the deployment of calls to available staff including support staff and duty clinicians.
Bank staff are crucial to supporting the delivery of the service playing a key role working with a multi-disciplinary team. You should be prepared to cover short notice shifts to cover annual leave, sickness, public holidays.
You will be required to undertake training / shadow shifts for a month (approx. 2 shifts per week) prior to commencing any shift work unsupervised.
The Out of Hours service operates from 8am – 8am 365 days working a variety of shifts 8am – 4pm, 4pm –midnight and midnight – 8am. Training will be covering all shifts listed with an expectation once trained you would ensure to keep skills up by covering all shifts.
Any shifts undertaken in the out of hours period will receive an unsociable hours payment.
As from 1st April 2026, the Agenda for Change full-time working week will be reducing from 37 to 36 hours per week. Part time hours will be reduced pro-rata. However, there will be a corresponding increase in the hourly rate so that pay will not be affected.
