OPERATIONS MANAGER
Murray Steel Products is one the UK's leading stockist of commercial grade steel plate, profiles, and structural sections. We now have an opportunity for an Operations Manager to manage the busy operations teams. This is a dual site manager role managing the operations of our Sheffield and Scunthorpe sites.
The successful candidate will manage the daily function of the Sheffield and Scunthorpe, Murray Steels Products Ltd, sites whilst working to develop the site capability to accommodate future growth. The role encompasses responsibility for the Outside stockyards, Warehouse, and Operational Teams. The successful candidate will be part of the Senior Management team, reporting to the Operations Director.
Key Tasks:
· General site management, maintenance, site improvement and development.
· To manage workflow and ensure handling and production targets, as agreed with the Operations Director, are consistently achieved.
· Health and Safety and Quality Management
· Warehouse process and productivity management.
· Internal customer liaison to ensure that a high level of customer service is always maintained
· Work to develop relationships with 3rd party suppliers to ensure availability whilst minimising costs. Product storage efficiency to ensure customer service levels are met and the quality of products is maintained.
· To ensure operating procedures comply with current health and safety legislation and to minimise accident rates.
· To communicate customer requirements and/or schedules to internal staff in a timely and executable manner to promote optimum cost efficiency.
· HR related management, including developing others and handling disciplinary issues.
· KPI recording of production efficiencies for management reporting and cost management performance.
· Ensure good housekeeping practices and that all areas are maintained in a safe and tidy manner.
Qualifications and Experience:
· Must have previously managed an intensive semi-production warehouse and operational team.
· Experience of general site management, maintenance and site development.
· Previous experience of implementing continuous improvement techniques. (lean, Six Sigma, TQM training) within the warehouse/production environment would be an advantage.
· Must be able to demonstrate having produced KPIs for both management reporting and for the improvement of productivity and performance.
· Previous experience of leading change management programs and team building.
· Cost Management responsibility.
Key Skills:
· Leadership ability.
· Well-developed management skills including knowledge of disciplinary procedures, motivational techniques and staff appraisal systems.
· Able to work on own initiative with minimum of supervision.
· IT literate.
· Good basic understanding of Health and Safety requirements.
· Good time management.
· Excellent communication skills
Excellent package for the right candidate, salary depending on experience, car allowance and 25 days holiday plus bank holidays.
