A new and exciting opportunity has arisen in the Sensory Needs & Physical Difficulties team within Devon County Council.
We are looking to recruit 2 Specialist Support Assistants who will have responsibility for BSL and developing our offer across the county as part of the redesign of Inclusion & Learning in Devon.
This role requires the ability to fulfil all spoken aspects of the role with confidence and fluency in English or be a native BSL user. You will need to have minimum of BSL level 3.

The role of Specialist Support Assistant – BSL, will include:
5. Managing, maintaining and delivering BSL to Deaf and/or Hard of Hearing (DH/H) children and young people (CYP), under the direction of the Strategic Lead and Teachers of the Deaf.
6. Delivering BSL interventions to CYP who are DH/H, using the BSL curriculum and set outcomes in conjunction with the Teachers of the Deaf.
7. Delivering BSL training to families.
8. Delivering BSL training to CYP to promote the use of BSL at school & in the home
9. Delivering focused BSL support to children aged 0-4yrs who are DH/H, to promote communication skills & language development.
10. Delivering BSL support networks to TAs, in conjunction with the Teachers of the Deaf
11. Monitoring and delivering BSL assessments in conjunction with a Teacher of the Deaf.
12. Produce effective reports following visits which specify appropriate SMART outcomes
