Job Description
Fisheries Enforcement Officers lead on areas of fisheries enforcement, help shape and deliver local area enforcement plans. Work is focused around targeted, intelligence led patrols to check for illegal fishing, fish removal and byelaw offences. They undertake rod licence checks and promote fishing through positive engagement with our customers and partners. The position takes a leading role in working with the Angling Trust to develop combined initiatives.
Officers will be trained to obtain a full Salmon & Freshwater Fisheries Act 1975 warrant to undertake High Impact Fisheries Enforcement work. This includes maintaining the high level of training, wearing of protective equipment and developing knowledge of fisheries legislation, offences and reporting procedures. A strong awareness of health and safety is critical to the role.
Successful candidates will require Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) clearance before starting in post and MUST achieve Non-Police Personnel Vetting (NPPV) level 2 (full) clearance after starting in post.
Key aspects of the role include working with a wide range of partners and enforcement agencies, incident response, conflict resolution and addressing enforcement related customer enquiries. Timely, accurate and concise enforcement report writing is required. They work closely with the Fisheries Technical Officers, the national Fish movements team and the wider enforcement portfolio of the business. The role involves both office and field-based elements, targeting different activities throughout the fishing season.

The team
You will join the Fisheries Biodiversity and Geomorphology team in Rivers House Blandford, undertaking fisheries enforcement work across Wessex area. To achieve our aims, we work closely with regulatory and specialist technical teams and with enforcement, fisheries and intelligence colleagues in other Areas and Nationally. We also routinely work with external enforcement bodies.

Experience/skills Required
You’ll have experience of investigating crime and taking enforcement action against offenders, with a proven track record of tackling crime. You should have knowledge and skills including:
* A keen interest in, and knowledge of, fisheries, angling, regulation & enforcement
* Experience in an investigatory role and knowledge of legislation governing criminal investigations
* Excellent administration skills, including an ability to keep accurate records and organise and manage your workload
* The ability to communicate to a range of people and influence them to achieve our goals
* The confidence to manage hostile situations and manage your own health and safety and that of others
* Physical fitness - the postholder will be expected to pass mandatory conflict resolution training, annual refresher training and work outside on patrols, undertaking field-based activities in all-weather including kayak boat work
* An ability to swim
* Boat handling experience/qualifications is/are desirable
