Sheffield Forgemasters is an iconic heavy engineering company which is capable of producing the largest and most technically challenging cast and forged steel components in the world from its manufacturing facilities in Sheffield.
In 2021 the business was acquired by the UK Ministry of Defence so as to secure its role as a critical supplier to the next generation of UK defence programmes and it is currently embarking upon a substantial programme of capital investment to modernise its plant and equipment over the next 10 years.
We are now looking to recruit a Steam Plant Engineer to work in our Melting Department reporting to the Engineering Manager. The successful candidate will take responsibility for the operations and monitoring of the steam plant, river water systems and associated plant. Ensuring Steam is readily available to meet production requirements. To ensure site water is available across site to meet the quench requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Operation and monitoring of the steam plant, river pumps and associated equipment to meet Melting Shop Production and Process requirements.
2. Operation and monitoring of additional gas fired Plant & Equipment on site, i.e. annealing furnaces.
3. Overseeing, operating and control of river water pumps, ring main System and reservoir to meet requirements.
4. Using computerised Systems to monitor plant Operation and maintain accurate records.
5. Undertake First Line plant maintenance as and when required.
6. Undertake Chemical analysis tests to Steam Generator feed water, record all results, adjust dosing as required.
7. Meter readings on gas/water and any service which relates to the role.
Essential Criteria:
1. Strong engineering background and previous experience in an engineering role.
2. Computer literate at intermediate level in MS Office (Excel, Word & PowerPoint) is essential.
3. Producing reports on a regular basis and on time.
4. Excellent proven interpersonal and communication skills, confident and comfortable in reporting and providing written / oral feedback.
5. Flexible and adaptable in their approach to work.
6. Ability to work effectively as part of a team and interact with other business units and operational areas.
7. Be self-driven and innovative and have the ability to resolve Problems.
Desirable Criteria:
1. Any previous steam plant operational experience.
2. Some electrical knowledge would be advantageous.
3. Apprentice trained, and have obtained a HNC/NVQ. level 3 in engineering or have equivalent experience.
Days/Hours of Work:
2 Shift alternating pattern Rota:
Pattern 1: Mon through to Wednesday: 18:00 - 06:00.
Pattern 2: Tuesday through to Thursday: 06:00 - 18:00 and Friday: 06:00 - 14:00
