Site Engineer - Highways Project (Newton Abbot)
Location: Newton Abbot, Devon
Rate: £380 per day
Contract: Freelance - 6-month initial contract (potential extension)

Overview
We are seeking an experienced Site Engineer to join a major Highways Project in Newton Abbot. The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting on-site delivery, ensuring works are executed safely, efficiently, and to the highest technical standards.
This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated engineer looking to contribute to a high-profile infrastructure scheme while working within a well-structured and collaborative team.
Key Responsibilities
Support the development of method statements, risk assessments, task sheets, and environmental procedures.
Implement Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs), ensuring hold points are observed and all check sheets completed.
Provide technical support to resolve engineering challenges and answer site queries.
Set out works to the required tolerances, regularly checking and maintaining accuracy.
Ensure all surveying and setting-out equipment is properly calibrated and documented.
Communicate clearly with the workforce to ensure understanding of setting out information.
Prepare site sketches and drawings, ensuring clear and accurate distribution.
Promote a safe working environment by assisting with the Health, Safety, and Environmental Management System.
Support change management, including design changes, subcontractor coordination, and procedural updates.
Maintain daily site diaries and progress trackers.
Assist with material and service procurement in collaboration with the Sub-Agent.
Mentor and support junior engineers on site.
Report directly to the Sub-Agent.
Essential Criteria
Minimum 3 years' experience as a Site Engineer on civil engineering projects (preferably highways).
Proficient in AutoCAD and MS Office Suite.
Strong understanding of Health & Safety regulations and safe site practices.
Excellent time management, able to prioritise tasks effectively.
Strong communication and liaison skills across multidisciplinary teams.
Valid CSCS card (Engineer level or above).
Full UK driving licence.
Desirable
Previous experience on National Highways or local authority road schemes.
Working knowledge of quality assurance documentation and surveying equipment (GPS, total station, etc.).
