Wellbeing and Pastoral Support Officer

About the Role:
We are seeking a caring, resilient, and emotionally intelligent Wellbeing and Pastoral Support Officer to join our inclusive, pupil-focused team. In this role, you will provide practical and emotional support to children and young people with a range of special educational needs (including autism, ADHD, SEMH, and anxiety-related needs), helping them to feel safe, understood, and ready to learn.
You will work closely with teaching staff, families, and external professionals to remove barriers to learning and build trusting relationships that support students' emotional development and overall wellbeing.
Key Responsibilities:
* Provide 1:1 and small-group pastoral support for pupils experiencing emotional or behavioural challenges
* Build strong relationships based on trust, respect, and consistency
* Support students to self-regulate emotions and manage transitions throughout the day
* Monitor attendance, engagement, and emotional wellbeing indicators
* Help create and deliver wellbeing plans and support strategies tailored to individual needs
* Liaise with safeguarding leads, external agencies, and families as appropriate
* Promote a calm, restorative, and inclusive environment within the school community
* Respond appropriately to incidents of distress, dysregulation, or crisis using positive behaviour support techniques
We're Looking For Someone Who:
* Has experience working with children or young people, particularly those with SEN, SEMH, or trauma-related needs
* Demonstrates a compassionate, calm, and consistent approach
* Is confident working collaboratively with teachers, therapists, and parents/carers
* Can de-escalate situations and apply proactive behaviour support
* Understands the importance of pupil voice and emotional literacy
* Is flexible, reflective, and open to training and development
Desirable (But Not Essential):
* Training in safeguarding, mental health first aid, trauma-informed practice, or Team Teach
* Experience in pastoral roles, mentoring, youth work, or therapeutic education
* Familiarity with EHCPs, restorative practice, or attendance support
* Relevant qualifications in education, youth work, psychology, or social care
