Job responsibilities
Assist and perform routine patient care tasks as directed by senior nursing staff and GPs, including:
* Wound care / leg ulcer care
* Removal of sutures
* New patient medicals
* Urinalysis
* ECGs and peak flow readings
* Venepuncture and blood pressure measurements
* Ear syringing and smear taking
* Routine immunisations (childhood and adult)
* Chaperoning and assisting patients during examinations
* Assisting GPs with minor surgery and coil fittings
* Requesting basic pathology tests (e.g., urine culture, swabs)
* Following agreed clinical protocols with referral to senior nurses or GPs as appropriate
Additional tasks include:
* Lead on Infection Prevention Control and carry out required audits
* Clean and sterilise equipment using an autoclave
* Maintain and clean equipment used by nurses and GPs
* Maintain GP and nurse rooms, stocking and rotating items as required
* Undertake housekeeping duties including general tidiness of nurses and treatment rooms
* Maintain stock of waiting‑room leaflets, health promotion literature, hospital stock, and vaccinations
* Participate in administrative systems and maintain accurate records
* Attend practice meetings and occasional home/care‑home visits (carer essential)
* Support health initiatives and any other delegated duties appropriate to the post

* Work within the scope of the UKCC Code of Conduct and professional practice
* Maintain a written professional development plan and up‑to‑date portfolio for UKCC registration
* Cooperate with annual appraisal meetings
* Membership of the RCN and current validation/revalidation for nurse registration
Qualifications
* Registered Nurse (Nursing and Midwifery Council)
* Experience in primary care and leadership of a nursing team
* Wound care, ECG, venepuncture, new patient medicals, immunisations, chronic disease management
* Infection prevention and control training
* Strong IT skills and competence in clinical IT systems
* Excellent communication skills (written and oral)
* Time‑management, organisational and team‑working abilities
* Problem‑solving, analytical thinking and ability to work under pressure
* Commitment to ongoing professional development and CPD
* Flexible to work outside core office hours and carry out relevant duties
