An exciting opportunity exists to join the University of Sussex as the Head of Research Finance and Contracts. You will provide leadership to promote and maintain high-quality post-award advice and support for research and innovation activities.
Responsibilities
1. Lead a team managing all financial and legal aspects of awarded grants and contracts, ensuring compliance with funder and sponsor terms and conditions.
2. Manage project reporting to relevant stakeholders and statutory reporting to ensure compliance with funding policies.
3. Support grant and contract holders to maximize funding and resources to deliver research and contract outcomes.
4. Lead on research income, cost, and contribution forecasting, developing robust processes to meet annual academic planning requirements.
5. Contribute to the wider work of the Research and Innovation Services Division and participate as a member of the leadership team.
About you
We seek an experienced leader with extensive experience in research finance administration processes and systems. You should have a good understanding of grant and contract-funded research, related legal contracts, and IP terms, with knowledge of UK and EC funder terms. Experience in developing and maintaining relationships with funders is essential.
You will have managed and led large, diverse teams with differing priorities, demonstrating highly effective leadership skills and the ability to motivate others.
