Our client is a specialist international music rights and licensing consultancy who have a roster of international media clients, which includes broadcasters, video on demand streaming services and FAST TV services. They manage the music licences for these clients with collecting societies such as PRS and PPL in the UK and numerous equivalent societies outside of the UK, mainly in Europe, but also in the US, Canada, Australia and many other countries worldwide. They now need a new Licensing Manager, with experience of collecting society music licensing, to join the well-established team.
Responsibilities:
* You will be responsible for handling the collecting society licence negotiations on behalf of our clients, including negotiating licence fees and other key commercial terms, and discussing both financial and legal provisions. This could be with collecting societies in the UK or outside the UK.
* You will be responsible for reviewing, marking-up and/or providing comments on long form licence agreements and discussing these with clients and with collecting societies. With the support of others in the team, you will be responsible for ensuring all agreements are finalised and that ongoing compliance work, such as reporting, takes place.
* You will need to work closely with our clients throughout, including people in the legal, finance and commercial teams, at both a junior and senior level. You will be required to produce an updated status report for each client each month and be prepared to organise and run regular in-person or online client meetings, in order to provide updates and advice, seek approval for licences and deal with queries.
* In order to negotiate and advise on licences, you will be required to analyse client data, including financial and usage reports, and be able to use Excel to illustrate collecting society rates, the impact of licence fees, potential counter-proposals, etc.
* You will need to advise clients on their risks in relation to requiring music licences and more general music rights matters, both via email and in meetings.
* You will be required to manage any clients which are assigned to you effectively and professionally, building relationships and doing your best to ensure client retention. You will also be required to help acquire new business and take the initiative and be proactive in this area. This will involve networking, marketing and being an ambassador for our business.
Skills and Experience needed:
* Experience of negotiating collecting society licences, ideally for audio-visual services, such as broadcasters or video on demand services. Your experience could have been gained either from working in the music licensing team at a media service or at a collecting society.
* Experience of reviewing and/or drafting collecting society licence agreements.
* Excellent written and spoken English, with good communication skills, including the ability to speak and write in a clear, effective and professional manner;
* Good negotiation skills, the ability to think laterally and argue persuasively;
* Good understanding of international media business, such as broadcasting and streaming, and a willingness to learn about the industry and keep abreast of developments;
* Good understanding of copyright and/or music law and a willingness to learn the complexities of this area (for example reading legislation/cases or articles, going on courses and attending seminars).
* Excellent numeracy and mathematics skills, with the ability to work with Excel to create formulas, run calculations and analyse data;
