Job Title: Autism Support Assistant – Bring Your Strength to the Classroom
Location: Northumberland
Salary: £83–£95 per day
Contract: Full-time, Long-Term
Start Date: September 2025
If you’re the kind of person who stays calm in chaos, keeps things ticking, and knows how to build trust—this one’s for you.
We’re working with a brilliant specialist school where young people with autism are supported to be their best selves. Right now, they need a steady, down-to-earth Autism Support Assistant to join their team. Someone who doesn’t mind rolling up their sleeves, keeping routines on track, and being that consistent presence a pupil can rely on.
Whether you’ve worked in youth clubs, sports coaching, care—or just know how to handle big emotions with a calm head—you might be exactly who they need.
What the role involves:
* Supporting pupils with autism through their school day—routine, regulation, and relationship building
* Helping students with communication (some use visuals, some use words, some need space)
* Backing up behaviour support plans and spotting what pupils need before they ask
* Working closely with teaching staff, therapists, and a really supportive SLT
What we’re looking for:
* Experience supporting young people with additional needs (doesn’t need to be in a school)
* Confidence, patience, and a sense of humour—because some days are a bit of a workout!
* Someone who can follow structure but think on their feet
* A genuine interest in helping autistic pupils thrive
If you’re Thrive trained or have experience with Makaton/PECS, brilliant—but if not, no problem. We’ll train you up with our free CPD.
