About the Role
We are recruiting for a Refuge Support Worker to join a specialist domestic abuse support service providing trauma-informed support to adults and families living in refuge accommodation.
You will play a vital role in supporting individuals who have experienced domestic or sexual abuse, helping them to rebuild safety, confidence, and independence during a critical stage in their journey.
This is a highly rewarding role where you will make a real difference every day, supporting people with complex needs and helping them move towards safe and sustainable housing.
What will you do?
* Deliver trauma-informed, person-centred support to adults and families in refuge
* Complete initial assessments, support plans, and ongoing risk assessments
* Provide a warm welcome and practical support for new residents settling into refuge
* Support individuals with housing applications, benefits, and resettlement planning
* Work with people facing multiple needs including mental health, substance use, and safeguarding concerns
* Promote independence, informed choice, and emotional wellbeing
* Support access to external services including housing, health, legal, and welfare support
* Facilitate community engagement and group activities within refuge settings
* Maintain accurate case records and contribute to service reporting
* Work collaboratively with external agencies and attend relevant safeguarding meetings
What do we need?
* Experience supporting vulnerable adults or families in a support or accommodation-based setting
* Understanding of domestic abuse and its impact
* Knowledge of safeguarding procedures for adults and children
* Ability to complete assessments, support plans, and risk assessments
* Strong communication and record-keeping skills
* Ability to remain calm and effective in crisis situations
* Strong understanding of professional boundaries and trauma-informed practice
* Experience in housing, refuge, or supported accommodation services
* Driving licence and access to a vehicle (business insurance required)
* Relevant training/qualifications in domestic abuse, safeguarding, mental health, or related areas
Extra Information
* Flexible working pattern (generally Monday to Friday with occasional evenings/weekends)
* Participation in a paid on-call rota
* Flexible start/finish times within service requirements
* Ongoing temporary contract with potential for extension
