Quantity Surveyor – Structural Steelwork
Location: South Yorkshire (with nationwide site visits)
Hours: Mon–Thu 08:30–17:00, Fri 08:30–15:45 (Early Friday finish!)
Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience + Excellent Benefits Package
The Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced Quantity Surveyor to take ownership of the effective financial and contractual management of our subcontractor accounts across multiple nationwide projects.
In this role, you will act as a key commercial lead—actively liaising with clients and subcontractors, providing expert contractual guidance, and controlling costs to mitigate risk and maximize value throughout the project lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities
* Commercial Management: Manage all commercial aspects of live steelwork projects from inception to final account.
* Contractual Analysis: Review, negotiate, and agree on subcontractor documentation, including terms and conditions, warranties, and bonds.
* Variations & Claims: Investigate, prepare, and submit variations, claims, and measures for interim valuations and final accounts.
* Financial Control: Monitor and compile project cost and revenue performance, including precise cost and cashflow forecasting.
* Expert Advice: Offer sound commercial and contractual advice internally to project teams and externally to clients.
* Account Agreement: Manage and finalise subcontractor accounts fairly and efficiently.
* Site Collaboration: Attend construction sites nationwide to maintain high standards of communication and alignment with clients and subcontractors.
Skills, Experience & Qualifications
Essential:
* A minimum of 5 years’ experience working as a Quantity Surveyor within the UK construction industry.
* Strong commercial acumen with proven experience managing subcontractor accounts and complex contract documentation.
* Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills.
* A full UK driving licence and the willingness to travel to project sites nationwide as required.
Desirable:
* Previous commercial experience specifically within the structural steelwork sector.
* A relevant academic qualification (Degree or HND in Quantity Surveying or Construction Management).
* Professional membership of RICS (Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors).
