The Band 6 Specialist Palliative Care Clinical Nurse Specialist works as an autonomous practitioner sharing a caseload of complex patients within a team structure.
There is access to clinical expertise and oversight to enable the optimal care of our patients. The delivery of a high quality, effective and compassionate care is essential to our organisation.
The palliative care service operates over 7 days.
The Palliative Care business unit operates across all Trust sites. This includes our hospices in Andover and Winchester as well as various activities in the community.
Main duties of the job
The Specialist palliative Care band 6 CNS post holder will practise autonomously, carrying a caseload of patients, supporting the wider team in the delivery of a seven day, twenty-four hour service for which you are responsible for or have been delegated the responsibility, this includes:
·High standards of Professional Practice to ensure quality and safety of patient care, experience and the patient journey
·To develop specialised clinical practice, knowledge, skills and experience in palliative care
·Contribute to the delivery of education in palliative and end of life care
·Attend site specific MDT’s and Morbidity and mortality meetings
·Leading by example
·Supporting and contributing to the team in ensuring that clinical services are delivered to a high quality of care and that all compliance requirements such as CQC and contractual requirements are achieved
·Establish local and national networks, linking with other practitioners in specialist area in order to share/learn from examples of good practice. Work with relevant clinical groups at cancer network level in order to deliver local and national objectives for the specialist area
· To ensure that effective two-way communication takes place at all levels within the service, developing and maintaining systems and approaches to staff communication and involvement that take account of the working patterns and requirements of staff

Training and Qualifications
Essential criteria
1. Able to demonstrate a good command of the English Language both written and verbal
2. Professional UK registration e.g. NMC
3. Degree level education or equivalent knowledge and skills gained through any combination of alternative study, or employment experience
4. Post registration qualification(s) in field of expertise
Desirable criteria
5. Additional Post graduate learning in specialist field including master’s degree or working towards
6. Advanced Communication Skills Training
7. Non-medical Prescribing course
Experience and Knowledge
Essential criteria
8. Evidence of Continued Professional Development (CPD) clearly recorded for professional profile
9. Experience of teaching in clinical practice Evidence of post registration clinical work/experience in palliative care
10. A broad awareness and understanding of current health issues and to demonstrate a good understanding of DOH plans and recent initiatives particularly in Palliative and end of life care
11. Adherence to current statutory requirements, standards and regulations

13. Experience of staff supervision and mentorship including, employee relations, performance, conduct and training needs analysis
