SEN Teaching Assistant - Secondary SEN School (Oldham)
Location: OldhamStart Date: ASAPContract: Full-time / Term-time only
Are you an experienced SEN Teaching Assistant with a strong understanding of Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC)? We are looking for a committed and resilient individual to join a specialist secondary SEN school in Oldham, supporting students with complex ASC needs.
The Role:You will work closely with teaching staff to support students with complex autism, helping them to access a tailored curriculum in a structured and supportive environment. This role requires a proactive and patient approach, with a focus on building positive relationships and promoting independence.
Key Responsibilities:
* Provide 1:1 and small group support for students with complex ASC
* Assist in delivering personalised learning programmes
* Support students with communication, sensory, and behavioural needs
* Implement strategies to manage challenging behaviour positively
* Work closely with teachers and other professionals to support EHCP targets
* Promote a safe, inclusive, and structured learning environment
Essential Requirements:
* Proven experience supporting children or young people with ASC in a school setting
* Strong understanding of autism and associated complex needs
* Ability to remain calm and resilient in challenging situations
* Excellent communication and teamwork skills
* A patient, empathetic, and consistent approach
* Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of young people
Desirable:
* Relevant Teaching Assistant qualification
* Experience working in a specialist or secondary SEN setting
* Knowledge of strategies such as PECS, Makaton, or TEACCH
