Principal Consultant - Alternative Technologies
You will report to the CTO. You will be responsible for leading a team to develop a front‑end design into a fully defined electrolyser. This will involve producing bill of materials and assembly drawings to enable volume manufacture. You will manage the mechanical design team and coordinate with other disciplines. Excellent communication skills and technical knowledge are required. The role includes organising teams, resource planning, scheduling and implementing document management systems.
Responsibilities
* Leading a team of mechanical design engineers to realize the finalized mechanical design of the electrolyser in 3D CAD (SolidWorks).
* Delivering the mechanical design project documentation package, including parts specification, bill of materials and manufacturing/assembly drawings for the electrolyser.
* Administering the PLM system.
* Working closely with other functions such as production, procurement, process and electrical engineering.
* Carrying out and checking design work while managing the team.
Qualifications
* A degree in mechanical engineering.
* Minimum of 5 years in a relevant role.
* Experience designing in 3D CAD.
* Experience leading teams.
* Experience administering bill of materials and PLM system.
* Experience in a volume manufacturing environment.
* Able to apply design‑for‑manufacture and design‑for‑assembly methods.
* Confident and outgoing.
* Comfortable communicating requirements and presenting results to broad audiences.
* Validating designs using stress/strain (FEA) and fluid dynamics calculations (CFD).
* Understanding and using design rules from standards.
* Achieving certification under the Pressure Equipment directive.
* Mechanical design of pressure equipment and pipework handling and applying relevant codes.
* Experience in SolidWorks.
