Outline of the role:
To provide volunteer cover on the In Patient unit by assisting staff to provide meals and refreshments to patients. Hospitality volunteers assist and support staff and patients at mealtimes. This can include preparing trays, serving meals, supporting patients with their meals, clearing away at the end of the meal, and assisting with washing up.
Key duties include:
* Prepare cutlery, crockery and trays ready for patients meal times
* Liaise with staff regarding patient nutrition and dietary requirements
* Assist staff to get patients ready for meal times
* Ensure all patient used items are collected, cleaned and ready for the next meal
* Load and empty the dishwasher and keep ward kitchen areas clean at all times
* Wash and assist with replenishing water jugs regularly.
* Set up tea trolley with tea, coffee, milk etc and take the trolley to patients and families asking if they would like a drink.
The above list is not exhaustive, and volunteers may be asked to take on other tasks to support and assist staff.
Time commitment:
We are flexible to suit the volunteer, but ideally a commitment of one shift a week. Current shifts are seven days a week: Morning: 9.00am – 1.30pm Afternoon: 2.00pm – 4.00pm Evening : 5.00pm – 8.00pm

* Understand the boundaries to this role, requesting staff assistance where appropriate

* An understanding of Food Safety (E-Learning training will be provided)
* An understanding of Health & Safety (E-learning training will be provided)
Training and support:
* Induction, training and support to enable the safe provision of a quality service
* In Patient Unit staff will ensure that you are given supervision and training to enable you to complete your duties
* Mandatory training to be undertaken in the first six months of volunteering
* Opportunity to develop new skills and meet new people.
