Our Justice Sector team are currently providing interpreting and translation services for Police forces across South West (Wiltshire, Gloucester, Devon and Cornwall, Dorset, Avon and Somerset), Thames Valley and Hampshire, Surrey and Sussex, and Yorkshire.
We are seeking skilled and reliable freelance Police Interpreters to support our Clients with high-quality interpreting services. The ideal candidates will have experience in legal interpreting and deep understanding of cultural and linguistic nuances in high-stakes situations.
As a Police Interpreter, you will play a vital role in ensuring clear and accurate communication between law enforcement personnel and individuals with limited English proficiency during interviews, investigations, custody procedures, and community interactions.

Key Requirements:
We operate within PAIT (Police Approved Interpreters and Translators) scheme, which requires any linguist to hold level 6 Police interpreting qualification (DPSI law, DPI, DCI, Met Test) or level 6 or higher language/interpreting/translation qualification.
400 hours in public sector interpreting is also required.
Then depending on what type of qualifications you hold, we will ask for the following:
• if you hold level 6 Police interpreting qualifications (DPSI law, Met Test, DPI, Diploma in Community Interpreting)- no need to prove your Police interpreting
• if you hold non-Police qualifications level 6 or higher (BA/MA or higher in languages, philology, interpreting, translation, linguistics), or DPSI Health or Local Government)-a minimum 50 hours of Police or Ministry of Justice (prisons, detention centres, solicitors, courts etc.) will be also required
• Your references /proof of hours must be supplied in a written form by the agencies/clients you have worked for.
Finally, regardless of what type of qualifications you hold, you also need to have or apply for NPPV3.
