Reporting to: The Headteacher, members of the senior leadership team (SLT) and the governing body

Main purpose

* Fulfil the professional responsibilities of a teacher, as set out in the School Teachers’ Pay and Conditions Document.
* Meet the expectations set out in the Teachers’ Standards.


Duties and responsibilities


Teaching

* Plan and teach well‑structured lessons to assigned classes, following the school’s plans, curriculum and schemes of work.
* Assess, monitor, record and report on the learning needs, progress and achievements of assigned pupils, making accurate and productive use of assessment.
* Adapt teaching to respond to the strengths and needs of pupils.
* Set high expectations which inspire, motivate and challenge pupils.
* Promote good progress and outcomes by pupils.
* Demonstrate good subject and curriculum knowledge.
* Support children’s learning and development in line with the EYFS framework.
* Plan and deliver age‑appropriate activities that promote physical, emotional and social development.


Whole‑school organisation, strategy and development

* Contribute to the development, implementation and evaluation of the school’s policies, practices and procedures, supporting the school’s vision and values.
* Make a positive contribution to the wider life and ethos of the school.
* Work with others on curriculum and pupil development to secure co‑ordinated outcomes.
* Provide cover if another teacher is unable to teach.


Behaviour and safety

* Establish a safe, purposeful and stimulating environment for pupils, rooted in mutual respect.
* Manage classes effectively, using approaches appropriate to pupils’ needs to inspire, motivate and challenge pupils.
* Build warm, trusting relationships with children to support their confidence and independence.
* Have high expectations of behaviour.
* Be a positive role model demonstrating the school’s values.
* Take responsibility for promoting and safeguarding the welfare of children and young people within the school.


Professional development

* Take part in the school’s appraisal procedures.
* Regularly review your teaching and assessment and, where necessary, respond to advice and feedback from colleagues.
* Engage in further training and development to improve your own teaching.


Working with colleagues and other relevant professionals

* Collaborate and work with colleagues and other relevant professionals within and beyond the school.
* Work effectively as part of a team to create a positive nursery environment.
* Participate in relevant meetings and professional development opportunities at the school, related to learners, curriculum or organisation.


Wider professional responsibilities

* Communicate effectively with pupils, parents and carers.
* Work collaboratively with others to develop effective professional relationships.
* Communicate effectively with parents/carers regarding pupils’ achievements and well‑being.
* Make a positive contribution to the wider life and ethos of the school.


Personal and professional conduct

* Uphold public trust in the profession and maintain high standards of ethics and behaviour, within and outside school.
* Have proper and professional regard for the ethos, policies and practices of the school, and maintain high standards of attendance and punctuality.
* Understand and act within the statutory frameworks setting out professional duties and responsibilities.
