We are seeking a hands-on Supervisor who is equally comfortable leading a shift on the floor as they are stepping into the kitchen when required. You will be proactive, dependable, and committed to maintaining high standards across all areas of the Café.

JOB DESCRIPTION AND EMPLOYEE SPECIFICATION

Job Title

Shift Supervisor (Cegin Beca)

Working Pattern

As needed, regular evenings and weekend working will be required.

Purpose of the Role

As Café Supervisor, you will play a vital role in supporting the Café Manager in the day-to-day running of the Café. You will be responsible for supervising staff during shifts, ensuring smooth operations, and maintaining high standards of service, quality, and compliance.

You will lead by example, providing hands-on support across all areas of the business, including front of house and kitchen operations. A key requirement of this role is previous kitchen experience, with the ability and confidence to step into the kitchen to provide cover should the Chef be absent or during particularly busy trading periods.

You will help ensure the team consistently delivers outstanding customer service while upholding the Café's operational, financial, and legislative standards. Acting as a representative of the Community Council, you will promote professionalism, teamwork, and a positive working culture at all times.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

Operational Supervision

Supervise daily café operations to ensure efficient and smooth service.

* Lead shifts, including conducting pre-shift briefings and allocating responsibilities.
* Support staff scheduling and ensure adequate cover during busy periods.
* Act as Duty Supervisor in the absence of the Café Manager.
* Ensure high standards of presentation, cleanliness, and organisation across café, bar, and kitchen areas.

Team Leadership & Development

Support the recruitment, induction, and training of staff.

* Provide ongoing coaching and guidance to team members.
* Monitor staff performance and provide constructive feedback.
* Foster a positive, professional, and motivated team environment.

Kitchen Support & Food Operations

Work confidently within the kitchen environment as required.

* Provide kitchen cover in the absence of the Chef due to sickness or leave.
* Assist the Chef during peak trading periods to maintain service standards.
* Ensure food preparation, storage, and service comply with food safety and hygiene regulations.
* Follow and enforce FIFO procedures and stock rotation practices.

Customer Service & Standards

* Lead by example in delivering exceptional customer service.
* Address and resolve customer concerns professionally and efficiently.
* Ensure staff maintain strong product knowledge and service standards.

Financial & Administrative Support

* Assist with cash handling, order processing, and daily reconciliations.
* Support stock ordering, stock control, and inventory checks within budget guidelines.
* Monitor labour use during shifts to ensure cost-effective staffing.
* Assist in tracking sales performance and supporting cost control measures.
* Support the Café Manager in implementing promotions and business initiatives.

Compliance & Health & Safety

* Ensure compliance with Food Hygiene, COSHH, and Health & Safety regulations.
* Maintain a safe working environment for staff and customers.
* Ensure cleaning schedules (daily and deep cleaning) are completed and recorded.
* Uphold all legislative and company policies and procedures.

Communication & Reporting

* Communicate effectively with the Café Manager regarding operational matters.
* Assist with preparing operational documents, guides, and checklists where required.
* Liaise with Chefs and Team Members to maintain high-quality food and beverage standards.

Person Specification

* Minimum 2 years experience in a supervisory role within hospitality, café, bar, or restaurant environments.
* Proven kitchen experience with the ability to prepare food and confidently manage kitchen operations when required.
* Strong understanding of food safety, hygiene standards, and stock control procedures.
* Experience supervising, training, and motivating a team.
* Commercial awareness with an understanding of cost control and labour management.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
* Calm, confident, and decisive under pressure.
* Highly organised with strong time-management skills.
* Flexible availability, including evenings, weekends, and bank holidays.
* Eligible to work in the U.K.
* Welsh language skills desirable.
