Salary: £41,140.51Location: Wigan, Lancashire, WN5Contract: Full-time, PermanentShifts: 12-hour shifts on a rotating 4-week pattern (details below)
About the Role
An established manufacturing organisation within the flexible packaging sector is seeking a skilled and motivated Flexographic Printer to join their production team. This role involves operating wide-web flexographic printing machinery to high quality, safety and efficiency standards.
You will take the lead on running solvent-based flexo print processes, maintaining print quality, and ensuring all production activities follow strict operational, quality and safety requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Print Operation
* Set up, run and monitor flexographic print machinery to achieve optimum performance.
* Maintain machinery and the surrounding area in line with health, safety, environmental, hygiene and housekeeping standards.
* Ensure all spills are logged and cleaned promptly.
* Ensure all colleagues working on the press follow safe and compliant practices.
Quality & Compliance
* Deliver work in line with production orders and sign-off standards.
* Monitor and control print quality throughout production runs.
* Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements such as BRC, ISO and A2 permit standards.
* Conduct print inspections and troubleshoot press or quality issues, reporting non-conformities and correcting problems in collaboration with the Lead Hand, Technical and Quality teams.
Continuous Improvement
* Maintain lean manufacturing principles, including 5S and SMED.
* Participate in continuous improvement activities within production.
* Complete all paperwork and electronic data accurately and on time.
* Raise change request forms when errors or required changes are identified.
Shift Handover & Performance
* Carry out detailed shift handovers, ensuring the press is left in a suitable operational condition.
* Ensure the incoming shift is briefed on progress and any production issues.
* Perform press changeovers and maintain run speeds in line with KPIs.
* Minimise waste during print runs.
Skills, Experience & Qualifications
Essential / not Necessary
* Fully trained Flexographic Printer.
* Experience with solvent-based inks and wide-web flexo presses.
* Strong background in manufacturing, specifically label or packaging printing.
* Good literacy and numeracy skills (GCSE English & Maths or equivalent).
* Experience overseeing colleagues on the print press.
* Strong understanding of quality, health, safety and environmental standards.
Desirable
* Print-related qualifications (City & Guilds or NVQ Level 2/3).
* Experience with Fischer & Krecke 16S or Bobst 20SIX CI machines.
* Plate-mounting experience.
* Additional training such as fire safety or first aid.
* Exposure to Lean Six Sigma or similar continuous improvement techniques.
Shift Pattern (12 Hours, Rotating 4-Week Cycle)
Week 1: 4 nights, 3 offWeek 2: 3 days, 1 off, 3 nightsWeek 3: 3 off, 4 daysWeek 4: 7 off
A reasonable level of physical fitness is required due to lifting, bending and manual activity.
