The role
Role: Quality Auditor (QA) Back Shift
Reporting to: Quality Manager
Site: Low Street, Buckie
Shift Pattern: Monday to Friday, 2:00 PM to 10:00 PM (back shift, 40h per week). Flexibility is required based on operational needs.
Rate: £13.36 per hour with an increase to £14.42 per hour after completing a successful probationary period. Overtime paid at 1.5 x rate after 40 hours.
Job Overview:
To maintain and continuously improve the factory Quality Management System (QMS), ensuring all products are manufactured safely, legally, authentically, and to the required customer, regulatory, and company standards. The Quality Auditor will be responsible for monitoring production processes, verifying Critical Control Points (CCPs), conducting audits and inspections, supporting customer and certification requirements, and driving a culture of food safety and quality throughout the factory. The role requires strong attention to detail, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work independently within a fish processing environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Verify Critical Control Points (CCPs), quality checks, and production records.
- Conduct routine factory audits covering GMP, hygiene, housekeeping, allergen control, and food safety standards.
- Monitor product quality through inspections, sampling, testing, and sensory assessments.
- Complete environmental monitoring, swabbing, and hygiene verification activities.
- Review and maintain quality documentation, records, and traceability systems.
- Raise, investigate, and follow up on non-conformances and corrective actions.
- Support customer, regulatory, and certification audits (e.g., BRCGS, M&S).
- Verify calibration and performance of quality monitoring equipment.
- Assist with factory trials, new product introductions, and customer visits.
- Promote food safety culture and provide guidance to production teams.
- Escalate food safety, legality, or quality concerns immediately when identified.
- Ensure compliance with HACCP, food safety legislation, customer standards, and company procedures.
Knowledge, Skills & Experience
- Experience in food manufacturing (seafood experience preferred).
- Good understanding of HACCP and food safety principles.
- Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
- Good communication and computer skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Understanding of Health & Safety requirements
Desirable
- Internal Auditor qualification.
- HACCP Level 3 and Food Safety qualification.
- Experience with BRCGS and retailer standards.
- Experience in high-care food manufacturing environments.
