Overview
We are seeking to appoint a person to oversee pupil study when a teacher is unavailable due to courses, trips, sickness or other absence. The successful candidate should have a good sense of discipline and a non-confrontational manner. This is an ideal role for someone looking to gain experience before pursuing teaching as a career. Cover supervisors work with pupils but will not be required to do preparation, planning or marking.
Start Date: As soon as possible. Contract: Fixed term for one year in the first instance. Hours: 32.5 hours per week (term time only).
Location: Coombe Boys’ (part of the Coombe Academy Trust) in New Malden. The school is a popular, non-selective 11-18 with a federated trust including Coombe Girls’ School and three local primary schools. The school has around 1,000 students and a mixed sixth form. GCSE and Sixth Form results are above national averages, and the school was graded Good with Outstanding Leadership & Management in its most recent Ofsted inspection (Sept 2023).
Previous cover supervisors have progressed to train as teachers and many are now full-time teachers within the Trust.
Responsibilities
* Oversee pupil study sessions when a teacher is unavailable due to courses, trips, sickness or other absence.
* Ensure a structured, disciplined environment and utilise a non-confrontational approach when interacting with pupils.
* Support pupils with their tasks during study periods without undertaking preparation, planning or marking.
* Contribute to a positive learning culture and feedback to line managers as required.
