Overview
British Sign Language Teaching Assistant (BSL TA) required for a large secondary school in Newham. This role supports students who are deaf or have hearing impairments and helps ensure they can access the curriculum and thrive in their education.
Responsibilities
* Provide in-class support to students using British Sign Language.
* Collaborate with teachers to plan and deliver differentiated learning activities.
* Support students' emotional, social, and academic development.
* Assist with the preparation of teaching materials to ensure accessibility.
* Work closely with the school's SENCO and other support staff to implement tailored educational plans.
* Promote an inclusive learning environment and encourage positive interactions between students.
Requirements
* Proficiency in British Sign Language (minimum Level 2; Level 3 preferred).
* Experience working with children or young people, preferably in an educational setting.
* Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
* A patient, empathetic, and adaptable approach to supporting diverse learning needs.
* Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
* Previous experience as a Teaching Assistant or in a similar role.
* Understanding of SEN practices and strategies in a school setting.
