CORE PURPOSE We require an mathematically elite, highly analytical Maths Teacher to deliver high-level pure mathematics, mechanics, and statistics instruction across Key Stage 5 (A-Level Mathematics and A-Level Further Mathematics). Operating within a dedicated post-16 academic environment, the successful candidate will facilitate a rigorous, university-preparation curriculum designed to sharpen abstract problem-solving, advanced algebraic calculus, and statistical modelling, preparing students thoroughly for competitive STEM degrees and terminal public examinations. KEY TASKS & DAILY OPERATIONS Advanced Key Stage 5 Seminar Instruction: Plan and deliver conceptually dense, fast-paced A-Level seminars, breaking down complex topics including advanced calculus, coordinate geometry, matrices, and complex numbers. Higher Education & STEP Preparation: Provide specialist mentorship for high-achieving mathematics students, running advanced workshops for university entrance papers, including STEP, MAT, and TMUA, to secure top-tier Russell Group and Oxbridge placements. Data-Driven Academic Tracking: Implement rigorous, exam-style formative assessment routines, analysing micro-data from weekly problem sets to design sharp, targeted interventions that maximize high-grade boundary retention ( A∗ – B ). Mathematical Literacy Enrichment: Lead co-curricular math clinics and engineering societies, entering exceptional students into the UKMT Senior Mathematical Challenge and fostering independent mathematical research. Progressive Pastoral Tutoring: Act as a specialized Personal Tutor to a cohort of 16–19 students, guiding them systematically through UCAS applications, personal statements, time-management strategies, and the transition to mature independent learning. ENVIRONMENT & STRUCTURE Post-16 Higher Education Framework: Operating entirely within a mature, pre-university college environment, this institution focuses solely on sixth-form education. Teachers are completely free from Key Stage 3 behaviour management, general playground duties, or lower-school coverage. Campus Culture: The college features an adult, self-motivated, and highly collaborative atmosphere. Students treat staff as academic peers, wearing their own clothes and managing their own study blocks, ensuring lesson times are dedicated 100% to deep, uninterrupted mathematical theory and collaborative problem-solving. PROFILE REQUIREMENTS Qualifications: A strong honours degree (First or 2:1) in Mathematics, Statistics, Physics, or a heavily quantitative engineering discipline from a leading university. Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or a recognized post-16 qualification (such as QTLS) is preferred, but experienced lecturers or subject specialists with outstanding academic backgrounds will be fully considered. Pedagogical Capability: Exceptional subject proficiency with a proven capacity to deliver top-tier A∗ – A outcomes in terminal A-Level written papers through explicit, proof-first pedagogy. Intellectual Agility: The ability to field spontaneous, complex mathematical queries from highly articulate students, demonstrating a passion for pure numbers and elite logical reasoning. REGIONAL CONTEXT The Progressive Coast & Academic Innovation: Based in the vibrant, forward-thinking coastal city of Brighton & Hove, East Sussex, the college thrives within a highly educated, creative, and technologically rich eco-system, heavily supported by the research hubs of the University of Sussex and the University of Brighton. Connectivity & Infrastructure: The campus boasts excellent South East transit links, providing seamless road access via the A23 and A27 coastal corridors. Exceptional rail infrastructure operates smoothly through Brighton main station, offering frequent, rapid Southern and Thameslink services running directly to Gatwick Airport, Croydon, London Victoria, and London Bridge, alongside easy east-west rail links to Worthing, Portsmouth, and Eastbourne.
