Position Summary
Under general supervision, implements Bechtel’s Net Zero and Sustainability programs. Primary responsibilities include data quality review and analysis of the Greenhouse Gas Dashboard and supporting internal and external communication and training programs to support Bechtel’s sustainability goals.
The successful candidate’s responsibilities include supporting the Corporate Sustainability Specialist and Corporate Sustainability Manager in the review of project’s carbon emission reduction plans and analysing interventions in terms of cost and schedule for identification of areas of improvement. This includes working cross functionally to coordinate Net Zero initiatives and other sustainability programs.
Typical Responsibilities
* Works with Sustainability Specialist to implement the Corporate Net Zero Strategy and develops programs and campaigns to articulate the business goals to ensure alignment of colleagues in the delivery of sustainability in home office and project locations.
* Audits data quality Greenhouse Gas Dashboard submissions for completion and accuracy, identifies and resolves omissions, and trouble-shoots questions from users.
* Leads continuing education for users of the Greenhouse Gas Dashboard.
* Works with GBU Sustainability Managers to ensure GBU reporting compliance.
* Works with facility and project managers to review Carbon Action Plans developed by projects and identify and implement opportunities to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
* Develops programs, processes and procedures to help achieve the annual GBU priorities, 2030 Corporate Sustainability goals, and Corporate Net Zero goals. Monitors and reports progress.
* Anticipates and manages sustainability issues, with particular emphasis on issues that have, or have the potential to, create risk to Bechtel’s reputation.
* Keeps abreast of emerging sustainability trends, legislation and voluntary principles in the GBU and construction industries and ensures compliance where required. Provides input into updating management instructions, core processes, policies and procedures to ensure compliance.
* Manages content for monthly Global Sustainability Community of Practice meetings.
Skills and Qualifications
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills and demonstrated ability to simply communicate complex concepts in a compelling, concise and creative way.
* Experience of developing plans and implementing processes and procedures.
* Skilled in working collaboratively with others in a complex integrated environment.
* Strong attention to detail.
* University degree in environmental science, engineering, or related field.
* Strong analytical skills and demonstrated competency in data analysis.
* Self-starter who can learn new concepts with minimal support.
* Demonstrated interest in environmental sustainability.
* Basic knowledge of carbon accounting and factors contributing to climate change.
* Prior work experience in environmental field a plus.
* Skilled in oral and written communications, including practical competence in multiple media platforms.
* Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office suite of products.
