The Opportunity
We are seeking a Junior Mechanical Engineer to join our team in Farnborough. The position will report into the Projects and Design Team Manager.
As a Junior Mechanical Engineer you will play a key role in supporting the research, development, and implementation of high temperature and nuclear imaging products. Working alongside a multidisciplined team, you will be responsible for supporting projects from conception to completion. This role is ideal for an entry-level engineer eager to apply their knowledge to real-world engineering challenges while gaining hands-on experience.
Key Responsibilities
* Assist in designing and analysing mechanical components and systems using CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks and AutoCAD)
* Conduct simulations, testing, and analysis to ensure product functionality and efficiency
* Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including manufacturing, electrical, and quality assurance, to support product development
* Prepare technical documentation, reports, and presentations for project updates
* Support prototyping, testing, and troubleshooting of mechanical designs
* Perform engineering calculations and simulations to support design decisions
* Perform material selection and cost analysis
* Ensure compliance with industry standards and company policies
* Assist in process improvement and problem-solving initiatives
* Assist with design reviews with internal and external customers
* Creating sketches, outline drawings, detail drawings and assembly drawings
* Design for manufacture, ensuring products are safe, reliable, and meet required industry standards
* Creating accurate part and assembly models
* Prepare Technical Construction Files for product compliance verification
* Design verification and functional testing
* Generating reports, calculations, test procedures, manuals, and master data within the ERP system (Item data, BOMs, Routes)
Qualifications and Experience
* Qualified to a minimum degree level in relevant field or relevant experience
* Experience of mechanical design and development using 2D and 3D CAD software (preferably Solidworks and AutoCAD)
* Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail
* Ability to review and work with stakeholders to prioritise workload of self
* Excellent communication, time management and organisational skills

Desirable
* Experience of preparing cost sheets for Sales Enquires
* Strong project management and organizational skills
* Knowledge of RoHS
* Knowledge of drawing standards including BS8888
