Senior Speech and Language Therapist

The Doncaster and Bassetlaw Children’s Speech and Language Therapy Service is looking to recruit an experienced Band 6 Speech and Language Therapist to be part of our Outpatients team for 1 day a week and Child Development Centre team for 2 days a week to work at Doncaster Royal Infirmary.
This exciting role provides the successful candidate with an opportunity to develop their assessment and therapeutic skills, working with children aged 2 years and above, with speech, language and/or communication needs in a clinic setting, as well as with pre‑school aged children with complex needs.
The successful candidate will deliver a speech and language therapy service for children and young people within Doncaster and Bassetlaw. They will provide independent assessment and treatment of children as well as developing and implementing specialist programmes of care and treatment for individual patients with communication difficulties. They will be an integral part of the team, participating in the ongoing development of the service. When working with the pre‑school aged children with complex needs, the support will take place in nurseries, schools and patients’ homes.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will be required to:
* Be a qualified clinician within their speciality
* Provide clinical expertise in supporting the delivery of high standards of therapeutic care for patients within their care / speciality
* Manage own caseload and to provide a high standard of assessment, management, treatment and advice to meet the needs of patients.
* Work collaboratively with colleagues in health, social care, local authority and other agencies to meet the needs of patients.
* Ensure the efficient and effective use of resources available within the team.
* Work with other members of the team in the development of the service.
* Ensure Clinical Governance is integral to service delivery within the specialty area.
* Represent the Therapy Team and contribute to the development of the wider Therapy service within Clinical Therapies.

Personal Attributes & Skills
* Excellent interpersonal skills including observation, listening and empathy skills
* Highly developed negotiation and problems solving skills.

* Knowledge of the principles of clinical governance/audit
* Ability to interact with other or non-health agencies
* In depth knowledge of national policies and procedures relevant to the specialist client group
Qualifications & Training
* Professional specific degree i.e. BSC speech sciences or master's in medical science
* Registered member of the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists
* Completion of the RCSLT Newly Qualified Practitioner Goals
* Member of the Health and Care Professions Council
* Evidence of successful completion of specialist short courses in relevant specialism
* Membership of relevant clinical excellence network
* Completion of RCSLT dysphagia competencies
Knowledge & Experience
* Relevant undergraduate experience of working with a paediatric caseload
* Relevant undergraduate experience of working with a range of assessment tools and appropriate therapeutic interventions
* Experience in working in nurseries, schools and patients’ homes
* Experience working as part of a paediatric MDT with children with a wide range of communication disorders
* Understanding of the use of AAC with early years children
* Relevant undergraduate experience of working with children with speech sound disorders
* Experience of efficient and productive working within outpatients clinic setting
* Experience in assessing children with eating and drinking difficulties and providing an appropriate eating and drinking management plan
