Overview
Clinical Nurse Specialist for Clinical Haematology – 6 month, Band 7 position at Southmead Hospital, North Bristol NHS Trust.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide highly specialist nursing advice to patients and families.
* Plan, develop and improve the service ensuring high quality and cost‑effective care.
* Act as an autonomous practitioner, independently planning, implementing and evaluating programmes of care.
* Deliver personalised care planning, referral and discharge to primary care team.
* Manage complex symptoms, provide specialist advice, embed patient and public involvement.
* Advise on treatment options, including clinical trials.
* Transcribe radiology requests on ICE after IR(M)E training.
* Advocate for patients, negotiate journeys, ensure optimum care.
* Maintain links with other health care agencies and organisations.
* Promote infection control guidelines and procedures.
* Model excellent communication and clinical skills for colleagues.
* Deliver complex condition‑related information to patients and relatives.
* Provide specialist support in clinical areas and optimise quality improvement opportunities.
* Analyse and respond to complex clinical situations, formulate solutions.
* Act as a change agent to motivate and reassure staff during change.
Specific Requirements
* Provide education and support for patients receiving oral and/or parenteral chemotherapy, including consent.
* Use protocols, specialist knowledge to assess patients in follow‑up and pre‑chemotherapy clinics.
* Authorise blood products post National Blood Service training.
* Provide telephone support for haematology cancer patients.
* Perform bone marrow biopsies post training programme.
* Undertake non‑medical prescribing post training programme.
Education & Development
* Lead and participate in specialist education programmes for patients, carers and staff.
* Lead on policy and service development within multidisciplinary teams.
* Lead on audit, research and evidence‑based practice.
* Maintain professional knowledge, lifelong learning, supervision and appraisal.
Qualifications & Experience
* Band 7 level, nursing registration with NHS.
* Significant knowledge and experience of haematological conditions.
* Excellent organisational and communication skills.
* Experience in multidisciplinary team working and patient advocacy.
