Overview
We are recruiting for an Automation Maintenance Technician at our Birmingham Mail Centre, Aston, Birmingham, B6 4AB site. In this role your potential earning will be over £56,000 per annum.
Salary: £53,195 per annum, plus night shift allowance, 22.5 days annual leave with bank holidays and a defined contribution pension scheme. A weekend supplement for Saturday and Sunday shift attendance is applicable.
Royal Mail is undergoing a major technological transformation to a predominantly mechanised parcel sortation process. You will be part of a programme that introduces new parcel processing technology and engineering investments to support our 24/7 operations.
The role covers early, late and night shifts as part of the Birmingham shift rotation system, with some flexibility to meet operational needs, including voluntary overtime.
Shift patterns (typical): Nights 20:00 – 07:30; Lates 13:00 – 22:30; Earlies 07:00 – 14:30/08:00 – 18:30 ( weekends vary by pattern ).
The Role
Shift attendance equates to 41 hours per week – full time. You will be responsible for ensuring availability and performance of automation assets through the completion of effective maintenance procedures.
Responsibilities
* Perform maintenance tasks, including preventative, predictive and corrective maintenance
* Carry out continuous improvement activities
* Provide effective support to the Engineering Manager, Maintenance Team Leader and Engineering Team Coaches; complete end-of-shift reports, fault logging and data entry
* Identify root causes of automation breakdowns and prioritise corrective actions to meet operational requirements
* Monitor equipment performance and improve automation outputs in collaboration with operational stakeholders
* Identify and lead Continuous Improvement projects from conception to implementation for machinery in the Hub/Mail Centre
* Work on own initiative and as part of a team to achieve common goals
About You
As an experienced multi-skilled engineer you’ll be qualified in electrical and mechanical engineering (minimum ONC Electrical Engineering / NVQ Level 3 – or equivalent). You will understand Health & Safety legislation and have hands-on experience maintaining automation equipment with the ability to communicate complex issues effectively. A full UK driving licence is required as travel to other sites may be needed.
