A leading global manufacturer of world-class machining equipment is looking for a Senior Buyer to join their team in Derby.

The purpose of the position is to liaise between the business and suppliers, ensuring continuous supply chain support. You will support Buyers and Junior Buyers and assist with managing the sourcing process.

Key Responsibilities:
* Report to the Purchasing Manager.
* Act as a senior liaison point between production facilities and suppliers, supporting other members of the Procurement team.
* Assist with the sourcing process by identifying, selecting, and negotiating with suppliers.
* Identify risks and opportunities in the sourcing process for both production and non-production spend.
* Mitigate risks and pursue opportunities that adopt innovative solutions.
* Work closely with the plant operations team to verify inventory levels and prepare production/delivery schedules to meet customer demands.
* Place purchase orders with suppliers using the ERP system.
* Maintain communication with the supplier base regarding near and future requirements, and advise them of irregularities or unusual demands.
* Track delivery and quality performance of suppliers using scorecards and drive improvements to meet KPI targets.
* Handle escalations beyond your control and coordinate with relevant stakeholders to resolve issues.
* Ensure business processes are executed according to set procedures and workflows.
* Represent the company professionally internally and externally, and prioritize Health & Safety.
* Local/regional travel may be required (up to 25%).
Experience & Characteristics:
* Experience in purchasing, preferably within manufacturing companies.
* Graduate in Logistics, Supply Chain, Manufacturing, or equivalent.
* Knowledge of planning, purchasing, and inventory management systems like lean management, VMI, Min-Max, Kanban, Pull systems.
* Good understanding of manufacturing processes, engineering materials, and mechanical engineering principles.
* Ability to interpret engineering drawings and specifications.
* Experience with Oracle or other ERP systems daily.
* Proficiency in MS Office applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
* Strong interpersonal skills for cross-functional communication.
* Resilient, able to work under pressure and multitask in a fast-paced environment.
* Willingness to contribute to all facets of project life cycles, with responsibilities evolving as business needs change.
