Operations Manager - Leicester
Overview
Our client is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Operations Manager to join its team. This is an exciting opportunity to play a pivotal role in driving the efficiency and effectiveness of the organisation. As a key member of the senior management team, you will oversee internal systems, ensure compliance, and support the delivery of its programmes and strategic priorities.
This full-time, permanent position offers a competitive salary of £50, to £60, per annum (depending on experience). Part-time arrangements may be considered for the right candidate.
Responsibilities
Improving Business Operations
1. Lead the continuous improvement of internal systems and processes to enhance efficiency and support organisational growth.
2. Identify and implement tools and technologies to streamline activities such as financial management, project tracking, and HR administration.
3. Develop and maintain operational policies and procedures to ensure consistency, accountability, and compliance.
4. Monitor and evaluate operational performance, using data and staff feedback to identify and resolve bottlenecks.
5. Foster a culture of learning and adaptability, encouraging staff to adopt improved processes.
6. Ensure the organisation's infrastructure is robust and scalable to support programme delivery and strategic goals.
Operations & Administration
7. Oversee the day-to-day running of office operations, including HR, IT, governance, and health & safety.
8. Manage supplier relationships and contracts (e.g., insurance, IT, premises).
9. Support grant applications, reporting, and effective project tracking.
Finance & Compliance
10. Oversee budgeting and financial reporting processes, working closely with the Finance & Risk Committee and Treasurer.
11. Supervise the Finance Team and HR Officer to manage budgets, invoicing, and payroll.
12. Ensure compliance with UK charity law and regulatory requirements.
HR & Team Support
13. Manage the HR Officer to ensure effective HR administration, including contracts, policies, and onboarding.
14. Promote a positive and inclusive working culture.
Fundraising & Project Support
15. Assist with the operational delivery of fundraising events, appeals, and campaigns.
16. Support programme managers with resource planning and logistics for conservation projects.
17. Oversee volunteer and supporter engagement systems.
Governance Support
18. Act as a key point of contact for the Board of Trustees, ensuring timely communication and access to relevant information.
19. Oversee the scheduling, preparation, and follow-up for Board meetings.
20. Support trustee recruitment, induction, and training processes.
21. Ensure compliance with governance and reporting obligations to regulatory bodies.
Organisational Leadership
22. Be an active member of the senior management team.
23. Role model the organisation's values and behaviours.
24. Encourage continuous improvement initiatives across all areas of work.
Qualifications
Essential
25. Proven experience in operations, administration, or project management (ideally in a small organisation or nonprofit).
26. Strong leadership and organisational skills.
27. Accountancy knowledge, Financial literacy and experience managing budgets and financial systems.
28. Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills.
Desirable
29. Familiarity with UK charity governance and regulatory requirements.
30. A commitment to conservation, sustainability, and nature recovery.
31. Experience in HR management.
Day-to-Day
32. Oversee and improve internal systems and processes.
