Ophthalmology Patient Administrator

We are passionate about improving patient experience throughout their Ophthalmology journey. You will assist patients in checking in for their appointments, handle enquiries and ensure follow‑up appointments are organised. Excellent communication skills with colleagues across the Trust are essential.
Compatible with flexible working, you may be required to work at both Chorley Hospital and Royal Preston Hospital.
Main duties
* Assist patients with check in and appointment scheduling
* Handle patient enquiries and phone calls in a friendly manner
* Escalate issues within a patient’s journey appropriately
* Support management with patient concerns and complaints
* Maintain positive relationships with Ophthalmology colleagues and management
* Work effectively in a busy office environment
* Use computer systems and keyboard accurately
* Operate independently with initiative
* Demonstrate diplomatic and tactful communication
Responsibilities
* Develop and maintain effective working relationships with clinicians, managers, and other service users.
* Ensure patients’ care is at the forefront of priorities.
* Book follow‑up appointments in a timely manner.
* Work independently without supervision.
* Adapt quickly to changing work environments.
* Provide adequate cover during staff absences.
Qualifications and Education
* Good general level of education
* Understanding of relevant administrative skills
* NVQ/Diploma in Administration
* GCSE English and Maths (Grade C or above) or functional key skills Maths and English Level 2
* Good typing/keyboard skills
Knowledge and Experience
* Experience in a customer service environment
* Knowledge of confidentiality principles
* Experience working within the NHS or a health‑care related setting
* Administrative experience and call handling in a busy environment
