About the Role & Team
As a Manager, Software Engineering you will be responsible for leading a group of engineering leaders and their squads within the Identity Engineering organisation.You will help set technical and architectural direction, influence the roadmap for squads and the wider organisation, and partner with peers across Product, Project Management, and Engineering. You’ll support leaders in organising effectively to deliver on Identity Engineering’s goals, lead within a dynamic, inclusive environment grounded in agile practices, and foster strong collaboration between squads. Additionally, you’ll help cultivate a culture focused on delivering exceptional experiences for guests, consumers, and internal stakeholders.
Identity Engineering delivers Consumer Identity and Access Management (CIAM) capabilities across The Walt Disney Company (TWDC) including but not limited to: D+, Hulu, ESPN+, and Parks. Identity Engineering squads build and run high-traffic and globally replicated systems which form an integral and visible part of every consumer’s journey at Disney properties.
What You Will Do
1. Lead the design, development, testing, deployment, and support of stateful microservices and lambdas in a multi-region cloud environment.
2. Promote and support Agile methodologies such as Scrum, Kanban, and Scrumban by leading regular ceremonies such as stand-up, retrospectives and sprint planning.
3. Mentor engineering leaders and their squad members to help them improve their technical ability and build their profile within and outside of the organisation.
4. Collaborate with Product Managers, Designers, QA, Operations, and other stakeholders to understand requirements and articulate technical decisions and outcomes.
Required Qualifications & Skills
5. Familiarity with at least one of the following Java Virtual Machine (JVM) languages: Java, Scala, or Kotlin.
6. Familiarity with at least one of the following cloud providers: Amazon Web Services (AWS), Google Cloud Compute (GCP), or Microsoft Azure.
7. Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Software, Electrical or Electronics Engineering, or comparable field of study, and/or equivalent work experience.
8. Minimum of 8 years related work experience.
Desirable Skills
9. Familiarity with the Scala programming language and popular functional frameworks such as: Cats, Cats Effect, ZIO, and http4s.
10. Familiarity with both object oriented programming (OOP) and functional programming (FP) best practices.
11. Familiarity with Amazon Web Services (AWS), Kubernetes, Terraform, and infrastructure as code (IaC) best practices.
