Overview
We have an exciting opportunity for a Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) manager to join our Thurso team. This is a key role where you’ll report to the director and work closely with senior leaders to drive health, safety and environmental compliance, risk mitigation, and cultural improvement across the site. You’ll safeguard people, operations and the wider community through proactive engagement and expert HSE support.
The Vulcan site, at Thurso, is operated by Rolls-Royce on behalf of the Ministry of Defence (MoD). As an authorised nuclear site, knowledge of, and adherence to, the Vulcan Safety and Environment Management system is key to the role.
This role blends HSE leadership, strategic influence, regulatory knowledge, and close customer liaison, making it ideal for someone looking to deepen their impact within a high-performing safety culture.

What you will be doing
With this attractive opportunity you will get a chance to:
* Support local management in identifying hazards, assessing risks, and implementing mitigation actions
* Promote a proactive HSE culture and support behavioural and cultural improvement
* Facilitate local HSE governance, conduct compliance gap analyses, and help deliver improvement plans
* Prepare and support credible emergency response planning and execution
Who we’re looking for
To be successful in this role you will need to:
* Hold a NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent qualification
* Have relevant HSE experience within a manufacturing, engineering, or high-risk industry
* Be a confident communicator with the ability to engage and influence at all levels
* Demonstrate strong knowledge of HSE legislation, risk management and emergency planning
* Be proactive, self-motivated and able to lead on safety initiatives independently
