Highways Inspector – Cambridgeshire County Council Salary: £350 Per Day Hours: 37 Hours Working Schedule: Monday to Friday Contract Length: 5 Months Location: (National Highways’ Wintringham A428 site office) - Field based Job Details Highway inspector to inspect the construction of the portions of the A428 DCO which will become Cambridgeshire County Council assets. This is restricted to overbridges and junctions, not the mainline. Undertake site visits to spot check work, review testing data, check material tickets and generally check for compliance against approved drawings. Where there are deviations from the approved design or other faults, escalate to the project sponsor and on-site supervisor. The remit of this inspector would be to inspect the construction of the National Highway led infrastructure which will revert to CCC when the works are complete. For avoidance of doubt, the inspector will not inspect the mainline dual carriageway, but distinct sites as listed below: Potton Road overbridge Cambridge Road junction Toesland Road overbridge Eltisley junction Caxton Gibbet junction Where the inspected location includes structures, these structures remain with National Highways and therefore do not need inspection. Inspection will include earthworks. The inspector will need to undertake site visits to spot check the groundworkers, review soil testing data, review material tickets, and generally check for compliance against approved drawings. Where there are deviations from the design or other faults, the inspector will need to escalate such items with the project sponsor for resolution. From a logistics point of view, the inspector will need to. Check into the scheme’s site office at Wintringham (St Neots) and then proceed to inspect the works using a Skanska works vehicle. The fundamental remit of the role is to advocate for CCC’s long term interests through the construction process and as such, they will need experience inspecting the construction of major highway infrastructure
