Responsibilities
* Assist the manager in achieving the aims and objectives of the Statement of Purpose and deputise in the absence of the Registered Manager.
* Support and manage staff so they can meet the needs of children and young people.
* Undertake direct work with children and young people as appropriate.
* Act as the responsible person for managing child protection concerns and complaints.
* Collaborate with other professionals to achieve optimum outcomes for young people.
* Provide supervision and support to senior staff in line with National Minimum Standards and meet the needs of children through:
o Ensuring each young person has an allocated key worker.
o Ensuring each staff member is aware of each child’s placement plan and their responsibilities for its implementation.
o Attending childcare reviews and planning meetings to provide information and achieve best outcomes for young people.
o Undertaking direct work with young people and acting as an appropriate role model.
o Assisting in developing systems in which young people are consulted about the quality of care they receive.
o Maintaining accurate written records in logs, continuation sheets and files to enable regular monitoring and evaluation.
o Working in partnership with parents, carers and other professionals to safeguard and promote the welfare of young people.
o Chairing children’s meetings and facilitating consultation with young people in general.
o Acting as an appropriate adult at PACE interviews.
* Manage a staff team through:
o Providing managerial control and direction in relation to staff duties and responsibilities.
o Assisting with recruitment and retention of staff, including induction training for new staff.
o Supervising new starters during their probationary period.
o Developing a management style that balances control and direction with staff decision‑making opportunity.
o Planning shifts and ensuring their smooth running during duty periods.
o Providing consultation and informal advice to staff on day‑to‑day matters.
o Offering 1:1 supervision to staff in line with National Minimum Standards.
o Identifying and progressing individual training and development needs of staff in the context of personnel development plans.
o Undertaking annual appraisals of staff.
o Addressing issues related to conduct and competence of staff.
o Conducting management investigations when required.
o Assisting the Registered Manager in promoting personal and professional development through appropriate delegation of duties and responsibilities.
o Contributing to team and staff meetings to facilitate good communication and staff development.
o Ensuring staff work within the Home’s policies, procedures and National Minimum Standards requirements.
* Develop systems that ensure effective allocation of resources through:
o Ensuring adequate staffing levels that meet the needs of the Home.
o Managing budgets effectively and monitoring the use of finances, including petty cash returns and weekly attendance records.
o Ensuring that company vehicles are clean and regularly maintained.
* Monitoring the fabric of the building (including fixtures, amenities and grounds) and taking remedial action where necessary.
Qualifications & Requirements
* Comfortable using an electronic care recording system on a daily basis to document, monitor and update children and young people’s records accurately.
* Experience with Clearcare is an advantage but not essential; full training will be provided.
* Confidence in using digital systems as part of day‑to‑day duties.
